Palworld developer Pocketpair has fulfilled its promise to help indie game developers by publishing its debut game, with the developer of Tales of Kenzera: Zau.
Pocketpair has decided to expand its horizons and entered the publishing world with a new indie game. The studio has named its publishing arm Pocketpair Publishing, using some of its profits from Palworld.
The company shared this statement in a press release earlier today. “Pocketpair Publishing provides comprehensive support for game development through funding, development assistance, and publishing for indie game developers and small studios.”
Tales of Kenzera: Zau is a horror Metroidvania video game developed by Surgent Studios and published by Electronic Arts/ The game was released to critical applause for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on 23 April 2024
Pocketpair Becomes Publisher with Surgent Studios
Due to funding issues, the studio was forced to close shortly after launching the game. This has been a common problem affecting indie developers.
However, Pocketpair Publishing has enabled the game to continue development and release a new season this year. The company joins other players who have helped independent game developers.
“Game development comes with many challenges,” said Pocketpair Publishing head John Buckley. “But we want to ease that process as much as possible and provide an environment where creators can pursue their dreams.”
Even as the news trumps the triumphant note for Surgent Studios, many developers have been forced to shutter due to a lack of funding. Some of these studios have tried to source funding but have failed.
There are platforms, like Kickstarter, that facilitate funding through private donations. However, these projects must be located in selected countries and alienate most indie studios.
Pocketpair Publishing has started rather quickly in the publishing business. This year, it will collaborate with Surgent Studios to release a new game. Although unrelated to Tales of Kenzera: Zau, it will still feature horror.
